Your Questions Answered
What can physical therapy do for my child?
A pediatric Physical Therapist helps your child strengthen motor skills at any age and stage by working to improve their range of motion, strength, flexibility, and movement patterns. The goal? Help children move their bodies how and when they want to the best of their abilities. PT can help with many issues across your child's growth and development, including:
Recovery from sports- and non-sports-related injuries
Delays in development or not meeting milestones as expected, such as a child who should be rolling, walking, or jumping
Genetic disorders, such as Down syndrome
Muscle weakness, bone or joint injury, nerve issues
Poor coordination or balance
If your baby doesn't like tummy time, has flat spots on their head, or you are concerned about their development for any reason, PT can help! If your school age child seems clumsy or uncoordinated, PT can help! If your tween or teen has an sport or repetative stress injury, PT can help! Don't feel like you need to "wait and see," come see me! Often timely treatment is the key to easier and faster resolution of issues.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
In California a doctor's referral (script) is not required to start Physical Therapy. Your child can be seen for a maximum of 12 visits or 45 days, whichever comes first, without a referral. Many insurance companies still require a physician referral for coverage. If you are unsure about needing a referral please call to inquire.
What is your new patient procedure?
Call for a free 15 minute consultation. This is a good first step to discuss what you are looking for and to see if we are a good fit! If you want to schedule an Initial Evaluation or a one-time Developmental Assessment you can do so here. Once you are scheduled you will receive New Patient Forms that should be completed no later than 24 hours prior to the start of your appointment.
What can I expect at the first appointment?
During an initial visit, a PT will check your child’s strength and development. This can include things like assessing how easily they can stand, walk, balance, and complete tasks appropriate for their age. These activities help the PT see where there may be skills deficits or areas of concern. Once these areas of need are identified the PT will work with you and your child to figure out a treatment plan that feels right for your family.
What types of health insurance do you accept?
At this time Coastal Kinetic PT is an Out of Network (OON) provider. If you have OON benefits for physical therapy a superbill can be provided upon request. A superbill allows you to submit for reimbursement directly to your insurance company. You are encouraged to speak with your insurance company directly prior to initiating care.
